Letter 31: Dustfall Study in the Environmental Assessmentbufton@shaw.ca POST TO: Powell River News.com website 28 May 2007 The Golder and Associates report, page 29, paragraph 4.2 Dustfall states that monitoring at the Phase 1 landfill was carried out between August 15 – 21, 2006, and again from September 7 - October 3, 2006. Data from the Powell River Weather Office shows that two days in the first sample had fog, and 22 of the 27 days in the second sample had either rain, fog, or shallow fog. Shallow fog is described as a low, under 1 metre fog, which burns off later in the day. Since the samples were batched, we cannot tell if the dry day samples contain more or most of the contaminants – see enclosed chart. This moisture in the air obviously has a dampening and therefore stabilizing effect on the ash. Readings taken after three weeks of a dry July could be very different. This information leads me to mistrust the conclusions of the dust hazard associated with the land fill expansion. Please respond to these concerns. Thank you; Joanne Edwards

* Shallow fog is defined as a low ground fog less than 1 metre deep. »
